St. Lawrence County Board of Elections releases key dates for 2013

CANTON – St. Lawrence County Board of Elections has released key dates for petitions, elections and absentee ballots.

• 2013 DATES FOR REGISTRATION, ENROLLMENT AND ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Aug. 16 Last day for applications for registration/enrollment for the Primary Election to be postmarked. 5-210 (3)

Aug. 21 - Last day for “Change of Address” to reach the Board of Elections to be effective for the Primary Election. 5-208.3

Sept. 3 - Last day to apply by mail for absentee ballot for the Primary Election. 8-400(2c)

Sept. 9 - Last day to deliver absentee ballot application or apply in person for an absentee ballot for the Primary Election.

Sept. 10 - Absentee ballots for the Primary Election must reach the Board of Elections by the close of the polls on primary day EXCEPT ballots postmarked by the postal service not later than the day before election may be received until the seven days after election (Sept. 17). 8-412

• PRIMARY ELECTION DAY-

Polls open 12 noon until 9p.m. (St. Lawrence County)

Oct. 11 - Applications for registration for the General Election by mail must be postmarked not later than this day. 5-210(3)

Oct. 16 - Last day for “Change of Address” to reach the Board of Elections to be effective for the General Election. 5-208.3

Oct. 26 - (Saturday) Board of Elections office will be open 9 a.m.-noon for the purpose of issuing absentee ballots. 3-214(3)

Oct. 29 - Last day to apply by mail for absentee ballot for General Election. 8-400(2)

Oct. 29 - Board of Elections office will remain open until 7 p.m. for the purpose of issuing absentee ballots. 3-214(3)

Oct. 30 - Board of Elections office will remain open until 7 p.m. for the purpose of issuing absentee ballots. 3-214(3)

Nov. 2 - (Saturday) Board of Elections office will be open 9 a.m. noon for the purpose of issuing absentee ballots. 3-214(3)

Nov. 4 - Last day to deliver absentee ballot application or apply in person for an absentee ballot for the General Election. 8- 200(4c)

Nov. 5 - Absentee ballots must reach the Board of Elections by the close of the polls on Election Day, except the ballots postmarked by the postal service not later than the day before election, may be received until seven days after the election (Nov. 12 Military Nov. 18).

• GENERAL ELECTION DAY-

Nov. 5 - Polls open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

• PETITION AND CAUCUS DATES PARTY DESIGNATING PETITIONS

June 4 - First day for circulating and signing designating petitions. 6-134(4)

July 8 – to July 10 -- Dates for filing designating petitions. 6-158(1)

July 15 - Last day to file authorization of the designation of a candidate who is not an enrolled member of the party for which the designation is being made. 6-120(3)

July 15 - Last day to file certificate of acceptance or declination of designation. Acceptance required ONLY if candidate is not an enrolled member of the party. 6-158(2)

• INDEPENDENT NOMINATING PETITIONS

July 9 - First day to sign independent petitions. 6-138(4)

Aug. 13 to Aug. 20 - Dates for filing independent petitions. 6-158(9)

Aug. 23 - Last day to file acceptance or declination of independent nomination. Acceptance is required by all candidates in order for petition to be valid. 6-158(11)

• CERTIFICATES OF NOMINATION (Caucus Results)

June 4 - First day to hold town caucus 6-108

Sept. 17 - Last day to file Certificates of Nomination. 6-158(6)

Sept. 20 - Last day to accept or decline party nominations made at a caucus. Acceptance required ONLY if candidate is not an enrolled member of the party. 6-158(7)
