OGDENSBURG – Gorick Construction has been tearing down and cleaning up the former St. Joseph Nursing Home on Lafayette Street on behalf of the city.
While the structure has been knocked down, work on the site continues.
The 50,000-square-foot structure was acquired on back taxes. Multiple attempts to sell the property over the past few years were unsuccessful. A $500,000 grant obtained by the city more than covered the demolition, which was bid for less than $250,000.
The project has been monitored by Atlantic Testing Laboratories. The company will also conduct weekly inspections of the erosion and sediment control measures to comply with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Officials are hopeful the lot will be more marketable without the dilapidated building.
