MASSENA — A new record high temperature was set for yesterday’s date, as spring-like temperatures blew into the St. Lawrence Valley.
The reading of 53 degrees at the official National Weather Service station at Massena’s Richards Field beat the previous record of 48 set in 1984.
The average high temp for Feb. 3 in Massena is 15 degrees, according to NWS records.
The record low for Feb. 3 is minus 28, set in 1971.
A high of 48 degrees was recorded earlier today at the NWS station which is not warm enough to beat the record of 51 degrees, which happened in 1991.
A record will likely not be broken today as temps are dropping across the North Country.
Temperatures on Feb. 1 were nearly warm enough to set a new record in St. Lawrence County, rising to an unseasonably warm 53 degrees, but came up one degree short from tying the record of 54, set in 1988.
