As spring approaches, Ogdensburg residents reminded of brush pickup regulations

OGDENSBURG – As spring approaches, Ogdensburg residents are reminded that the city has modified its brush policy and will no longer provide curbside pickup during summer months.

Those violating the city’s policies will be issued a warning, but can expect fines if problems continue.

Spring brush cleanup will begin April 17 and continue until May 21.

Under the city’s police only yard waste will be picked up. Yard waste includes brush, leaves and branches under six inches in diameter and less than 6-feet long.

Brush will not be accepted if it includes pet waste, construction debris, garbage or containers of any kind.

Piles must not block fire hydrants, touch poles bushes or fences. The city will not pick up debris or yard waste from contractors.

Brush pickup will begin in the Second Ward and move toward Proctor Avenue. Each ward will be picked up multiple times during the cleanup process.

With the exception of spring and fall cleanup periods it is prohibited to place yard waste in the area between the curb line and the sidewalk.

Where no sidewalk is present it is prohibited to place yard waste within fifteen 15-feet of the curb line.

Property owners in violation of this policy will receive an order of remedy before the City takes action to correct the violation.

Property owners will be financially responsible for all costs and fines, as documented in our municipal code, to resolve the violation.

City police will be contacted to address violations.

Questions should be directed to the Department of Public Works at 315-393-2300.
