HAMMOND -- Spay-Neuter-Now received a New York State Animal Population Control Program (APCP) grant, distributed by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), to support affordable spay/neuter programs for income-qualified owned cats and dogs.
“This grant brings much-needed financial support to help pay Spay-Neuter-Now’s veterinarians and technicians, as well as for surgical supplies and vehicle costs,” said Kevin T. Mace, general manager of Spay-Neuter-Now.
The grant supports Spay-Neuter-Now’s ongoing operational costs for its high quality, high volume spay/neuter mobile clinic as well as additional program discounts, impacting 400 cats and dogs in the North Country.
“Our mobile clinic operates thanks to generous donations, fundraisers and grants like this,” Mace said. “We are eternally grateful to the ASPCA for supporting spaying & neutering, the most effective long-term and humane method we have to combat companion animal overpopulation.”
“Spay/neuter is an issue that not many people think about, but the ASPCA recognizes it as the most effective way to prevent unplanned litters and a key step in keeping animals out of the shelters,” said Jill Van Tuyl, community initiatives director at the ASPCA. “Through the APCP grants, we are able to help those organizations who are working to reduce the number of homeless animals in their communities through spay/neuter, and in turn, help pet owners provide the best care for their animals.”
Spay-Neuter-Now operates primarily in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis counties and can be contacted at 486-0094, 489-0541 or www.spayneuternow.org.
