POTSDAM -- An April 27 spaghetti dinner fundraiser will raise money for a Potsdam Central School student who must undergo multiple surgeries for serious injuries suffered in a car crash.

Mackenzie R. Wagstaff, 18, Racquette Road, Potsdam, was airlifted to Syracuse April 15 after two vehicles overturned following a collision reported at 4:39 p.m. at the intersection of State Rt. 345 and Sullivan Road.

The dinner, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 10 Elm St. will help raise money to help pay for costs associated with a series of surgeries Wagstaff will need to undergo.

The $10 meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, roll and dessert. The meal is dine-in or takeout and deliveries within the village are available by calling 265-2074.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies say the collision occurred when a Ford Focus operated by Wagstaff, entered Rt. 345 headed toward Potsdam and was struck on the driver’s side by a Jeep driven by Illyssa W. Carty, 29, of Lenny Road, Potsdam.

Potsdam Fire Chief Justin Perry said all victims were out of one vehicle and Wagstaff was still trapped inside her heavily damaged vehicle when he arrived on the scene.

Perry requested LifeNet to the scene for air medical transport to a trauma center and West Potsdam Fire to assist with traffic control. EMS personnel worked to stabilize the patient while fire personnel began the task of disentangling the victim.

The damage to the vehicle made for a challenging extrication, Perry said.

Wagstaff was extricated from her car by Potsdam firefighters with the Jaws of Life and flown by Lifenet 710 to Upstate Medical Center in serious condition, according to deputies.

Carty and a passenger in her vehicle, Bryce M. Carty, 6, were checked at the scene by Potsdam Rescue and declined transport to a hospital.

Deputies said the investigation of the accident continues.

At Wednesday’s dinner, there will be raffles of items from Willow Tree Florist, Jake’s on the Water, Advanced Auto Parts, Thai Cuisine, Ponderosa and Clarkson University.
