A Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Lake Effect Snow Warning are in effect for parts of St. Lawrence County until 7 a.m. Friday.

While lake effect snows will have a noticeable affect in the southeastern part of St. Lawrence County today and tonight, little accumulation is expected in the rest of the county, according to the National Weather Service.

In Star Lake, the chance of precipitation is 90 percent today and tonight. Three to five inches of accumulation is expected today and another three to five inches tonight.

In Gouverneur, the chance of snow is pegged by forecasters at 50 percent, with less than one inch of accumulation predicted today and tonight.

High temperatures today will be 30 to 35 degrees with windy conditions. Lows will be in the mid-20s tonight, and windy and gusty condition will continue, the NWS says.

The snow is expected to continue Friday in the southwest of the county.

Drier weather is expected going into this weekend with some snow showers returning Sunday. Temperatures next week will be cooler as a colder air mass moves down to New England from Canada.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and southwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high 30 to 35 degrees. Southwest wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

• Tonight: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

• Friday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 34. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

• Saturday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph after midnight.

• Sunday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. Southwest wind around 7 mph.

• Monday: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Southwest wind around 8 mph.
