Snow, sleet and freezing rain will pummel county into Wednesday morning, weather service says

Snow, sleet and freezing rain will fall in St. Lawrence County until 1 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A mix of heavy wet snow and freezing rain is expected to fall all day and into the early morning Wednesday with accumulations of up to nine inches.

Snow will be steady for most of the morning and change over to sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon. At times snow is expected to fall as fast as one-inch per hour.

Driving conditions are already poor in some parts of the county and the freezing rain, followed by snow, has the potential to knock out power this afternoon and evening.

So far, National Grid reports only about 18 customers in Roosie are without power. They said they expect to have power restored by 10 a.m.

Wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour are also possible in the St. Lawrence Valley today.

Drivers are urged to travel at reduced speeds.
