Snow showers moving out of St. Lawrence County today, but may return tonight

The snow showers that greeted us this morning, which prompted the National Weather Service to post a hazardous weather outlook, will be moving out of the St. Lawrence Valley today, but a slight chance of snow showers will reappear overnight.

The high temperature today is expected to be around 30 degrees, and the low tonight in the low 20s with winds calm becoming light from the southwest.

It will be warmer tomorrow, but cloudy, according to the NWS forecast, with highs in the upper 30s to near 40.

It is expected to remain cloudy Sunday night as the thermometer drops to around 20, and snow and rain are forecast for Monday, with highs in the low 40s. Clouds and the chance of snow and rain continue into Monday night and Tuesday.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly before noon. Cloudy early, then gradual clearing, with a high near 31. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Tonight: A 20 percent chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph after midnight.

• Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. West wind 5 to 9 mph.

• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Monday: A chance of snow showers before noon, then a chance of rain showers. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Monday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 9pm, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Tuesday: A chance of snow showers before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10am and 11am, then a chance of rain showers after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

• Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Northeast wind around 9 mph.

• Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

• Wednesday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. East wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

• Thursday: A chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. East wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

• Thursday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 40. South wind 6 to 9 mph.

• Friday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
