Snow, rain, sleet to continue in North Country through Tuesday morning

The National Weather Service is maintaining a hazardous weather outlook for the North Country today as light snow showers are spreading north and east and increasing this afternoon. They are expected to taper to snow showers tonight. Total snowfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected today, with rain and sleet that may mix in during the day as temperatures rise.

A cold front will move through the St. Lawrence Valley tonight, turning conditions colder for the remainder of the work week. A few snow flurries or snow showers will be possible on Wednesday into Wednesday night.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence valley and the northwestern Adirondacks:

• For the rest of this afternoon: A chance of rain before 5pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Southwest wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

• Tonight: A chance of rain and snow showers before 8pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 8pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Southwest wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

• Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

• Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

• Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. West wind 11 to 14 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph.

• Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 18. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. Southwest wind around 7 mph.

• Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 20. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Saturday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 18. Calm wind.

• Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. Light north wind.

• Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 17. Light north wind.
