Snow and sleet coming to St. Lawrence County tonight, continuing Tuesday, forecasters predict

A winter weather advisory and a hazardous weather outlook will be in effect from 7 p.m. tonight to 10 p.m. Tuesday in St. Lawrence County as several inches of heavy, wet snow are predicted to fall on the North Country, plus possibly some accumulations of ice, the National Weather Service is warning.

The heaviest snowfall is expected Tuesday morning, the NWS says.

Today, partly sunny skies with temperatures of about 40 degrees are expected before snow and sleet arrive tonight. About an inch of accumulation is predicted with lows tonight in the mid-20s

Another one to three inches of accumulation are possible Tuesday with a high near 30, the forecasters say, with the precipitation tapering off Tuesday night as lows drop again into the mid-20s.

On Wednesday afternoon there could be some snow showers with highs near 40 degrees, and a slight chance of rain and snow showers persists into Wednesday night.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 40. East wind 9 to 13 mph.

• Tonight: Snow and sleet, mainly after 10pm. Low around 26. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.

• Tuesday: Snow and sleet. High near 30. Northeast wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

• Tuesday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow before 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 25. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Southwest wind around 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Wednesday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 9pm, then a chance of rain showers between 9pm and 1am, then a chance of rain and snow showers after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 31. Southwest wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Thursday: A chance of snow showers before noon, then a chance of rain and snow showers between noon and 4pm, then a chance of snow showers after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

• Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind 8 to 10 mph.

• Friday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 30. West wind 8 to 10 mph.

• Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Saturday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. West wind around 7 mph.

• Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. West wind 3 to 7 mph.
