MASSENA -- Mayor James Hidy told the Board of Trustees on Tuesday night that he is looking at making the stretch of Liberty Avenue between Willow and Center streets open to one-way southbound traffic only. This means vehicles would only be able to enter that part of the road from Willow Street.

The mayor and Public Works Superintendent Hassan Fayad have met with the owners of Bogosian Carpet Cleaners, who own a large building on the street regarding the proposition.

“There’s been a couple accidents there in the past,” Hidy said. “People are hedging more and more out to the middle of [Willow Street] to cross.”

Traffic parked in front of Bogosian’s on the south side of Willow Street can block a driver’s view of oncoming traffic, causing what the mayor said he has observed.
