SLU names new treasurer and VP for finance
CANTON -- St. Lawrence University has named Joseph P. Manory vice president for finance and treasurer at the college.
He has three decades of experience in financial management in education and private business.He will begin his duties on March 31.
Manory most recently served as the chief financial officer for the Savannah College of Art and Design, which is based in Georgia but includes nine campuses on three continents and serves more than 11,000 students.
“Members of the faculty and staff and students who met Joe during his visit to campus in January were impressed with his understanding of the liberal arts mission and the many challenges facing institutions such as St. Lawrence,” President Fox said. “Joe brings a varied background in secondary and higher education and private industry that will serve the university well.”
He oversaw a budget of about $400 million in revenue and produced record results in 2012 and 2013, balancing investments in growth, programs and infrastructure while improving the college’s financial strength.
“St. Lawrence is a unique learning community that inspires students to lead and contribute globally,” Manory said. “It is a privilege to be able to join the university and have the opportunity to help sustain and grow such an innovative and dynamic institution.”
Before working with SCAD, Manory served as the chief financial officer at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts from 2007 to 2011 and as vice president and treasurer at Quest Diagnostics Inc. in Lyndhurst, N.J., from 2000 to 2007. His diverse career covers three decades and includes several senior financial positions in industry. He began his career as a commercial banker.
He will succeed Vice President for Finance and Treasurer Kathy L. Mullaney, who will retire from St. Lawrence after two decades of leadership on March 31.
Manory and his wife, Sue, have two sons, Will, 17, and Drew, 14. His family will join him in Canton this summer.
