Sloppy weather moves in Tuesday night and Wednesday, clears out for Thanksgiving, weather service says

The weather outlook for the long Thanksgiving weekend looks pretty good, with clear skies prevailing Thursday through Saturday, turning cloudy with a chance of showers Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Between now than Thanksgiving, we seem to be in for a mixed bag of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight it should be clear and cold with lows in the lower teens across the St. Lawrence Valley and western Adirondacks.

Clear skies will remain Tuesday with highs approaching 40 degrees, before clouds and rain, snow, sleet and/or freezing rain move in Tuesday night and linger through Wednesday night.

And then on Thanksgiving Day, the NWS predicts, skies will clear and temperatures will be in the low 40s.

The National Weather Service forecast:

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 12. Calm wind.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 39. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph.

Tuesday Night: Snow likely before 1am, then snow and sleet likely between 1am and 2am, then sleet after 2am. In the Star Lake/Cranberry Lake area, some freezing rain might find its way into the mix. Low around 25. East wind between 5 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.

Wednesday: Freezing rain before 10am, then rain likely; in the south of the county, the precipitation might become sleet or snow. High near 37. Northeast wind between 9 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow showers before 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 24. North wind between 6 and 9 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thanksgiving Day: Sunny, with a high near 42.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 45.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 32.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 51.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
