MADRID -- Following a successful beta test, some Madrid residents now have access to Slic Network Solutions' high-speed internet.
Slic Sales Engineer Jeff Yette said Slic has divided Madrid into three sections of services and has received service.
He said the other two areas, in the central and western parts of the town will be online by the end of January.
Before connecting new customers, three residents were selected to be beta testers for Slic' new fiber-to-the home high-speed internet and phone service.
One tester opted for a 100 Mbps package, which Yette said was the fastest available from any provider in the area. He was extremely to receive over 90 Mbps on his wireless devices, according to Yette.
He said Slic’s installation crew confirmed the full 100 Mbps connection with a wired connection. Residents in the area can see a list of addresses and a map of the zones by visiting http:// www.slic.com/madrid.
Yette said this area joins Chase Mills (http://www.slic.com/chasemills), which was opened earlier this winter and has seen continued interest as residents in that area are ordering services on a regular basis.
To date, Slic has completed 12 of the 15 planned service areas in St. Lawrence County with Lime Hollow, Pine Grove and Southville areas to follow.
Slic received a $33 million in federal stimulus funding to expand broadband Internet access to rural and underserved areas of St. Lawrence County in 2011 and continues to work toward this goal.
