Skateboarder dies after colliding with golf cart

SANTA CLARA – A 19-year-old has died of injuries received when the skateboard he was riding struck a golf cart Wednesday night.

State police say Casey Mchugh of Lake Clear has succumbed to his injuries while at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine cause and manner of death, police said.

The accident occurred about 10:25 p.m. when Mchugh was struck by a golf cart operated by Bernard Farley, 43, of Saranac Lake. Farley fled the scene prior before troopers arrived.

Mchugh was riding his skateboard east on Hole Pond Road in a supine position and was struck when he entered the intersection of Floodwood Road and was hit by the golf cart, police said.

Mchugh was located at the scene unconscious and transported to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, then airlifted to Fletcher Allen, police said.

Farley was located at his residence several hours later.

The investigation is continuing, the Franklin County District Attorney's office has been notified and charges are pending, police said.
