CANTON -- Hannah Harvester and her sister Helen are both performing the part of Tracy in “The Philadelphia Story” -- on opposite ends of the country.
Hannah is starring as Tracy in the Grasse River Players upcoming rendition of the play for Canton¹s Winterest. Her sister Helen will also star as Tracy, but in a Harlequin Productions version in Olympia, Wash.
“Helen and I were always acting,” Hannah said. ³Her earliest role was at 4 years old playing Cindy Lou Who in “ ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas.’ I was two and played a little who.”
“We also dramatized all our children books that our father read to us. With Mom a seamstress, we had a never-ending supply of fabrics and costumes. As soon as our two younger siblings were of age - around two years old - we included them in our productions,” she continued.
“In high school and community theatre, there was a bit of rivalry between Helen and me. We looked a lot alike and vied for the same roles, “ she said.
The “Tracy” character the sisters are portraying was originally played by Katherine Hepburn in her break-out role on Broadway.
The Grasse River production of “The Philadelphia Story” will be presented at St. Lawrence University¹s Edison Black Box Theatre, Griffiths Art Center, Thursday, Feb. 14 through Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $9 for general admission or free for students.
Tickets are available at The Pear Tree and Brewer Bookstore, Canton, and Northern Music & Video in Potsdam or at the door.
