Shooting threats on social media lead to extra security at Harrisville Central School

PITCAIRN -- Parents of students in the Harrisville school district received an automated call tonight from school superintendent Robert Finster detailing precautionary measures the school would be taking Wednesday in response to threats of a school shooting made on social media platforms by a student.

According to the call received by parents, the school would have local law enforcement officers there onsite from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and school doors would remain locked during the day to stymie unauthorized entries.

The school’s webpage had no information regarding the measures that would be taken or the incident that sparked them. However, the school has held student assemblies in recent days about school shootings and Facebook chatter among parents (possibly not an informed source of information) seem to suggest that threats were made previously as well.

The automated call from the superintendent did not identify the student. The supervisor did state that the school was working with local law enforcement on resolving the issue.

A call to the school’s district office went unanswered Tuesday evening.
