Scores of St. Lawrence County political leaders, including Sheriff Kevin Wells and Massena Mayor Jim Hidy, have joined “leadership teams” to help elect Republican Matt Doheny to Congress.

With the GOP primary for Congress just month away, the Watertown Republican’s campaign has appointed over 160 members to focus on identifying and turning out supporters to vote.

The teams comprise mainly current and former elected officials, a Doheny campaign announcement said.

In St. Lawrence County, team chair is county Conservative Party Chair Hank Ford of Colton.

Other team members are Brasher Town Councilor William Demo, Canton Town Clerk Lisa Hammond, St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells, Canton Town Supervisor David Button; Clifton Town Highway Superintendent Kelly Smith, Colton Town Councilor Grace Hawley, Depeyster Town Councilor Thomas McKay, and Edwards Town Supervisor Sharee Lanphear.

Also, Fine Town Supervisor Mark Hall, Hammond Town Councilor Howard Demick, former County Treasurer and current Town Councilor Bob McNeil of Lisbon; former county sheriff and current Town Councilor Gary Jarvis of Lisbon, St. Lawrence County Legislator Mark Akins of Lisbon, Lisbon Town Highway Superintendent Timothy Dow, Lisbon Town Councilor Susan Duffy, Macomb Highway Superintendent Ronald Cardinell, St. Lawrence County Legislator Kevin Acres of Madrid, Massena Mayor Jim Hidy, Dick Ashlaw of Massena, Morristown Mayor Cheryl Shatraw, and Morristown Town Councilor Howard Warren.

Also, Ogdensburg City Councilor Billy Hosmer, St. Lawrence County Legislator Joseph Lightfoot of Ogdensburg, Ogdensburg Mayor Bill Nelson, Ogdensburg City Councilor Brian Mitchell, Oswegatchie Town Clerk Vicki Thornhill, St. Lawrence County Treasurer Kevin Felt of Oswegatchie, former Assemblywoman Chloe Ann O’Neil of Parishville, and Pitcairn Town Councilor George Morris Hart.

“I'm honored by the tremendous support our campaign has received from people throughout the entire district,” Doheny said. “We still have a lot of work ahead, but it's great to know we have such a strong, determined, and talented team committed to bringing our message of real world solutions to the voters.”

Doheny is going up against Elise Stefanik of Willsboro in the June 24 primary to decide who will carry the Republican banner in the November election for the 21st Congressional District seat being vacated by Plattsburgh Democrat Bill Owens.

For their part, the Democrats’ candidate, Aaron Woolf of Elizabethtown, is not facing a primary.

Meanwhile the Green Party’s candidate is baker Matt Funiciello of Glens Falls.
