St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells says his office and the New York State Humane Association are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading the arrest and conviction of those kidnapping dogs from around St. Lawrence County.
Wells says more than a dozen dogs have been reported stolen to his office over the last three weeks. He said they were kept outdoors "where they were typically secured by high fence or secure chain."
"Pet owners are again advised that pets should not be left unattended," Wells said in a prepared statement.
The reports have come from towns including Potsdam, Canton, Massena, Norwood, Norfolk, Brasher and Lisbon.
Wells says anyone with information on the dog abductions can call 379-2222 and can choose to remain confidential.
