St. Lawrence County Sheiff Kevin Wells says more than 30 people could be arrested by the end of the day on drug charges.

As of 10:35 a.m. Thursday, he said about 27 people were in custody with officers searching for the rest.

A report of some of those arrests taking place at 7 Washington St. in Potsdam seemed to be confirmed by a neighbor who heard a loud noise at about 5:50 a.m. and saw several people being taken outside, several police vehicles, and at least one probable suspect being led away in handcuffs.

"There's a lot of different officers working in the field between here and other jurisdicitions" to track down the remaining suspects, Wells said.

He said Attorney General Eric Schneidermann was expected to announce the arrests and release the suspects' identities at a press conference at the Dulles building in Watertown this afternoon.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the Washington Street adress in Potsdam.
