POTSDAM -- The shape of SUNY Potsdam's $41 million Performing Arts Center building is being revealed as its steel skeleton is dressed in a concrete shell.

The Performing Arts Building is providing an estimated $128 million in economic activity and creation of 344 regional jobs in the North Country during construction.

This is the first new academic building to be built on the SUNY Potsdam campus since 1973.

It is designed to meet the requirements necessary to achieve a minimum of a “silver” certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.

The center will offer multiple performance spaces, including a 350-seat proscenium theater, a 200-seat black box theater, and a 200-seat dance performance hall.

Ground was broken last year. The building, with 97,000 square feet of theater and dance space, is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014.
