COLTON -- Sex abuse charges against a Colton man have been dropped due to the lack of a speedy trial.

Charges against Jeremy P. Heath, 34, Gulf Road, were dropped in Colton Town Court 10 months after they were made.

Heath was arrested by St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies in July 2013 and charged with first-degree sexual abuse of an 11-year-old female, a Class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.

Town Justice Dale Robar dismissed the charges at the request of the defense, which alleged the prosecution failed to provide for Heath’s right to a speedy trial.

Heath’s mother, Donna Milefski, said the charges were “bogus.” She said the allegations cost Heath a job he had had for eight years.
