Severe thunderstorms possible throughout St. Lawrence Valley through tonight, weather service warns

The National Weather Service has posted a hazardous weather outlook, warning of the possibility of severe thunderstorms rumbling across the St. Lawrence Valley and northern Adirondacks this afternoon and evening.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area late in the day, and a few of the stronger storms may produce wind gusts approaching 60 mph. The NWS also warns of deadly cloud-to-ground lightning.

Those who plan to be outdoors should monitor weather conditions this afternoon and this evening.

It will remain gusty and warm this afternoon, with highs possibly reaching the low 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to linger into the evening. Low tonight will be about 45.

Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be sunny, with more seasonal highs in the mid 50s and lows in the 30s.

For the remainder of the week, temperatures remain in the seasonal range, with clouds and a chance of rain every day through Sunday.

The NWS forecast:

This Afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Southwest wind between 15 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11pm, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. Southwest wind between 11 and 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Breezy, with a west wind between 20 and 23 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 32. West wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 55. North wind between 3 and 6 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
