Severe thunderstorms expected in St. Lawrence County, large hail, power outages, damaging winds possible

Severe thunderstorms in St. Lawrence may bring one inch hail down between 2 and 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

"Strong to locally severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Saint Lawrence Valley between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. today and move east into the Adirondack Mountains and portions of Western Vermont, including the Champlain Valley by this evening," a release from the weather service said. "The primary severe weather threat over northern New York will be damaging thunderstorm winds, which could cause power outages and downed trees, along with large hail. As the line moves east the mainly severe threat will be isolated damaging wind gusts with frequent lightning and very heavy rainfall rates."
