CANTON — Multiple tenants are being considered to move into the old Pizza Hut building at University Plaza, U.S. Highway 11.

At least one of the possible businesses is retail-based and a national chain, according to David C. Muraco, owner of Empire Property Management of Dewitt, which owns the plaza.

Muraco also said he does not expect the old Key Bank location to remain empty long, but would not say what businesses were expressing interest.

Muraco has owned the plaza for about three years.

For the new tenant at the old Pizza Hut location, Muraco says it will take a national brand more time to design and build what they want and that months of work has already been done.

A formal announcement is expected in about a month, he said.

Pizza Hut moved to its new location Sept. 6, just a couple hundred yards from the previous location in the same plaza.

The new eatery features the latest design for new Pizza Hut locations and is one of six of its kind in the United States.

Pizza Hut has been in Canton since 1978.
