Seven held without bail following drug bust in Massena

MASSENA -- Seven people are being held without bail after drug bust in Massena that turned up about a half-pound of narcotics, cash and a gun.

Patrols at 11:52 p.m. Thursday pulled over a vehicle for running a stop sign at the corner of South Main and Leach streets after responding to a report of a non-fatal overdose at a home on Romeo Avenue.

Police say they found 129 grams of crack, 21 grams of heroin, 86 grams of powder cocaine, a revolver and large amount of currency. The drugs were worth $34,300, police said.

All of the defendants are charged with one count each of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A-II felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony.

They include:

• Roger D. Smith, 27, of 192 Center St., Massena, who was also cited with traffic infractions including failure to signal, failure to stop at a stop sign and no seatbelt, police said

• Dequon J. Holmes, 22, of 1521 Steuben St., Utica

• Deronn R. Pool, 21, of 614 Cooper Hill Road, Wynantskill

• Jamar L. Carter, 16, of 1634 Bennett St., Utica

• Shimeek J. Loadholt, 19, of 713 Plant St., Utica

• Janera D. Carter, 19, of 827 Jay St., Utica

• Keishla M. Rijos, 25, of 827 Jay St., Utica

“[These] arrests are part of the Massena Police Department’s continued efforts to put an end to the illegal drug activity in our community. We will not tolerate or allow this dangerous activity to continue here in Massena,” Chief Adam Love said in a prepared statement.
