North Country state Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, is accepting nominations for the New York State Senate’s “Veterans Hall of Fame.”
The initiative was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.
“In recent years, I’ve not only been able to honor dozens of veterans through this special program, I’ve also been given the opportunity to learn about their personal stories of struggle and triumph,” said Ritchie.
“From Army nurses who made it their mission to care for soldiers during WWII to individuals who have served our country during more recent conflicts in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, their courage is truly inspiring. I’m looking forward to honoring another group of heroes again this year,” Ritchie said.
Veterans’ posts, family members, friends and community leaders in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Oswego counties are invited to make nominations. Forms are available for downloadat www.ritchie.nysenate.gov. Those without access to a computer can have a form mailed to them by calling (315) 782-3418. Nominations must be received by April 25.
All honorees will be recognized Thursday, May 12 at the VFW in Mexico.
