POTSDAM -- State Sen. Joe Griffo, R-Rome, has postponed his plan to  present a number of local figures with Liberty Medals on Friday due to the weather.

Those to receive the honor include:

• Sam Spagnolo, owner of Sergi’s Restaurant, a well-known establishment on Market Street in Potsdam.

• Dominick and Ross Violi, who owned and operated Violi’s Restaurant in Massena. It closed in September after 70 years.

• Ernie LaBaff, former county legislator and head of the county Industrial Development Agency. He is also president emeritus of the Aluminum Brick and Glass Workers International Union.

• Ruth Garner, former mayor of Potsdam and current trustee. At 99 years old, she is believed to be the oldest serving government official in New York state.

• Tony Collins president of Clarkson University and head of the North Country’s Regional Economic Development Council.

• Chris Westbrook, a retired director and professor at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Wanakena. He was with the school for more than 20 years.

Griffo represents the 47th Senate District. It covers a north-south swath of St. Lawrence County from Massena to Fine, which includes Potsdam. The district extends into Lewis and Oneida counties.
