POTSDAM -- A second write-in candidate is running for a vacancy on the Potsdam Central School Board of Education.

Wade Davis and Frederick Stone will not seek their seats again this year.

The new candidate, Keith Sapp, has lived in Potsdam for over 21 years with his wife, Tammy, who is a 1986 graduate of Potsdam Central School, and his three children.

His two daughters graduated from Potsdam school district and his son is currently a freshman. Sapp’s oldest daughter has graduated from SUNY Potsdam and his other daughter is currently a sophomore.

Sapp is originally from Sardis, Ga. He graduated from SGA High School and worked for Georgia Power before moving to Potsdam. He is employed by National Grid as a foreman.

Since 1996, Sapp has operated a Martial Arts School in Potsdam. He has also volunteered at the Lawrence Avenue Elementary and AAK Middle Schools teaching the Kids Safe Program.

“Keith and his family are deeply engrained in the community,” according to a news release announcing Sapp’s candidacy from Stacey Green, who is one of his supporters. “Keith would be a strong advocate for the students, parents and community as a Board Of Education member.”

Polls are open Tuesday, May 16, from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Potsdam High School’s auditorium.
