POTSDAM -- A new taxi service is up and running after local apartment owners say they saw a need for more transportation services in the area.
“I own apartments with many international students and they told me that they have problems getting around,” said John D. Meyers, who will run the business. A Toyota Prius sporting Taxi Zero Transport lettering has already been seen driving around the village.
Elisa M. Meyers, John’s wife, is the owner of “Taxi Zero Transport” while John will handle daily activities including driving the taxi.
“The other taxi service seems busy. People would tell me how difficult it was to get a ride somewhere,” Meyers said.
The new service offers transportation in the village, to all areas of St. Lawrence County as well as airport service, according to Meyers.
“The village board sets our rates per stop within the village. For outside the village, we use Google Maps and charge a flat rate per fare,” he said.
There are plans to expand to Canton this year once the Meyers say they feel comfortable with the new venture.
“I enjoy meeting new people and appreciate how supportive the community has been,” Meyers said.
