LISBON -- Seaway authorities are warning shippers about two “high spots” that have emerged due to low water levels in the St. Lawrence River north of Gallop Island, off of Lisbon.
Ship speed limits in the area have been lowered.
Vessels drafting about 25.5 feet or greater are limited to 7 knots upbound and 12 knots downbound.
For vessels with a draft of less than that the speed limit of 13 knots remains in effect.
Vessel speed in this area will be monitored closely, according to the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation.
Upbound and downbound vessels drafting 25.5 feet or greater are also being advised to avoid vessel meets and sailing over the high spots.
