WADDINGTON – A search for a Quebec hunter reported missing was called off this morning when his body was discovered off County Route 31, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Members of fire and rescue departments from Waddington and Madrid, New York State Forest Rangers, sheriff’s deputies, state police and state Environmental Conservation Police all participated in the search.
They were looking for Raymond D. Burton, 53, of 145 Route 219, Hemmingford, Que., who was reported missing at midnight today. The search was called off at 7:53 a.m. when he was located about 1,300 feet from County Route 31, deputies said.
Sheriff’s investigators said they do not suspect foul play.
St. Lawrence Coroner James Sienkiewycz responded to the scene and had Burton’s body taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for an autopsy.
