Schedules change: all trash and recycling to be collected in Village of Potsdam on Tuesdays starting Jan. 10

POTSDAM – In an effort to simplify the trash and recycling process, all village residents will have trash and recycling pick-up on Tuesdays beginning Jan. 10.

That’s a change from what was expected to happen last week when the village posted Wednesday recycling pick-up schedules on its website.

And for half of village residents who have had Thursday trash collection, their trash pick-up day is changing to Tuesday. The other households have already had Tuesday trash collection.

Village administrator David Fenton stressed, however, that recycling pickup by Casella Waste Systems will alternate every other Tuesday, depending on where you live.

Casella is still ironing out which part of the village will be on the first list, and which is on the second. Fenton said the completed list will be available for the public to view online early in the week at www.vi.potsdam.ny.us.

He said the 1,400 trash customers will also receive a schedule in the mail.

Fenton said the move to Tuesday will hopefully end confusion for customers who couldn’t remember which days of the week were for recycling and trash. Casella will be able to cover the route in one day with two trucks, he added.

A separate truck will be used to collect recyclables.
