Saturday will be the day to get outdoors in St. Lawrence County because snow and rain are expected Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs near 29 degrees are expected under sunny skies as North Country residents buy Christmas trees and take care of last-minute shopping.

Saturday night, a chance of snow is expected, mainly after 5 a.m. Low temperature will be around 17, the weather service says.

Sunday, however, snow is likely before 3 p.m., rain is predicted between 3 and 5 p.m., and rain and sleet are expected after 5 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation should total between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.

Sunday night, sleet is expected before 10 p.m., followed by freezing rain between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., and rain after 4 a.m., the weather service says. Lows are predicted around 31.
