Jeffrey D. Wait, City Court Judge for the City of Saratoga Springs, has announced his candidacy for State Supreme Court for the Fourth Judicial District.

Judge Wait also serves as Acting County Court Judge and Supervising Judge for the Town and Village Justice Courts for Saratoga, Schenectady, Fulton and Montgomery counties.

The Fourth Judicial District includes St. Lawrence, Warren, Washington, Hamilton, Essex, Franklin and Clinton counties, as well as the four counties in which Wait now serves as supervising judge.

The Supreme Court position sought by Wait will be filled at the general election in November.

Prior to taking the bench, Wait was an attorney for 21 years, both in private practice and public service. He started his career as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County, was later appointed as Deputy Enforcement Counsel for the New York Board of Elections, and from January 2000 through December 2003 served as City Attorney for the City of Saratoga Springs.

He was both a trial attorney and an appellate advocate, and handled more than twenty appeals in the New York State Appellate Division. Wait’s great-great grandfather was District Attorney and then County Court Judge in the mid-1800’s in Washington County. More recently, his father served as Saratoga County District Attorney for more than 20 years.

Wait and his wife of 27 years, Mary Lou Wait, are both graduates of Saratoga Springs High School, and each of their three daughters also graduated from Saratoga High.
