Ogdensburg accountant Derek VanHouse won the GOP primary Tuesday for St. Lawrence County treasurer.
He received 1,628 votes, compared with 1,107 by former St. Lawrence County deputy treasurer Robert Santamoor of Morley. VanHouse is a certified public accountant and a partner in accounting firm of Pinto, Mucenski, Hooper and VanHouse.
Both were seeking to run as the GOP candidate for the remainder of the term of former treasurer Kevin Felt, who resigned.
Santamoor was terminated by Felt after serving more than four years as his deputy. Santamoor cited “philosophical” issues for his departure.
The Democrats have nominated Deputy Treasurer Renee Cole to run in the Nov. 8 elections.
The results are unofficial and do not include absentee ballots.
