AKWESASNE -- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe will complete the steel structure for their new Administration Building on Thursday afternoon.
To help commemorate, a customary topping off will take place at 1 p.m. by Ironworkers Local 440 at the construction site, Generations Park, 545 State Route 37.
Two Mohawk ironworkers, Dan Oakes and Gordie King, have been selected to make the final connection prior to a group photo opportunity with all the ironworkers and members of the Tribal Council.
When completed in September 2018, the three-story $15.5 million building will house 16 tribal programs at one location and provide parking for 220 vehicles. The new facility will also serve as an Emergency Operations Center and will address deficiencies associated with the Community Building at 412 State Route 37.
