RUSSELL - A Russell man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he and a passenger walked away from a personal-injury accident Friday night, according to state police.
Jesse C. Davis, 25, was charged with first-offense DWI, speeding, operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate and failure to notify the DMV of an address change.
Troopers say Davis and a passenger were in a 2002 Dodge Dakota driving northeast on County Route 24 near Donnerville Road in Russell when the vehicle went off the east side of the road, overturning and striking a tree.
Troopers were called at 8:44 p.m. and when they arrived, they found that the driver and passenger had left the vehicle on foot. They located Davis and his passenger, Krista L. Vandenburg, 26, of Madrid, about 200 yards away.
Russell Rescue transported the two to Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Davis reported leg pain and Vandenburg reported neck pain.
A blood sample was secured at the hospital to determine Davis's blood alcohol content and was charged at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, 50 Leroy St in Potsdam.
He was released after he was issued tickets returnable in Town of Russell Court on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
