If Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposition to raise the minimum wage passes, about 24,000 people in the North Country will get a raise.
Figures from the governor’s office indicate that 10,374 people in what they define as a multi-county North Country region make the current $8.75 per-hour minimum wage.
If the increase kicks in, it will elevate 24,608 people to $10.50 per hour, according to the governor’s office.
Cuomo’s figures claim this will have a $46.5 million economic impact.
Statewide, Cuomo’s office says there are 594,000 New Yorkers at the current minimum wage. The proposition would bring 1,346,800 workers up to $10.50 per hour, for a $3.4 billion impact, the governor’s office claims.
