MASSENA -- The winter so far has been harder on the town Highway Department than last year, Highway Superintendent Frank Diagostino told the town board on Wednesday.
“So far this year, November and December through the date … we’re out nine more times and we’ve doubled our usage in salt and spent $26,000 more in salt that at this time,” he said, adding that overtime is also up.
He said Cape Air has also had problems at Massena International Airport due to weather, including one point recently where three planes couldn’t take off because of weather.
St. Lawrence County already this year has been under hazardous weather watches or outlooks at least four times since October due to freezing rain and heavy snowfall.
