OGDENSBURG -- RiverLedge Campus recently held a volunteer appreciation day.
“People often think of a volunteer as someone who delivers the mail or answers the telephone. Our volunteers play a very important role here at RiverLedge,” said Tim Parsons, assistant administrator.
“RiverLedge volunteers spend precious time with our residents. They offer an ear that listens, a voice that reads the newspaper or the extra hands that make an outing possible. Today we thank you for your generosity and your commitment to those we serve,” Parsons said.
Volunteers read to residents, help with activities and provide entertainment.
RiverLedge Campus has more than 60 active volunteers that donate their time in a variety of ways.
One gentleman drives to RiverLedge every morning from Gouvernuer to help stock equipment; another volunteer dubbed, “Karaoke Sue,” shares her singing voice; and a gentleman from Heuvelton brings his teacup poodle, Jasmine, to visit with residents.
“We are very fortunate to have so many volunteers who are so dedicated and care so much about our residents and our community,” said Larry Worden, activities director.
