DEKALB – A Richville man was arrested Sunday after St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies said they investigated a property-damage accident in which no driver was found at the scene.
Deputies said they found enough evidence to charge Mark W. Tripp, 28, 1334 River Rd., with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle speed not reasonable or prudent, unreasonable speed, and no seat belt.
Deputies responded to the accident around 4:30 p.m. and upon investigation believed the driver had possibly been ejected from the vehicle and landed in the Oswegatchie River, officers said.
It was later determined the owner of the vehicle, Mark Tripp, was the operator at the time of the accident, deputies said.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Richville Fire Department, DeKalb Fire Department, Gouverneur Rescue Squad, Ogdensburg Rescue Dive Team, Parishville Dive Team, and the New York State Police.
Tripp was released on appearance tickets to appear in DeKalb Town Court at a later date, officers said.
