Richville to get $5,000 in online Reader’s Digest contest for finishing 17th

RICHVILLE -- Richville has earned a $5,000 grant to be used for community projects and civic initiatives, according to unofficial results from Reader’s Digest’s We Hear You America campaign.

Richville steadily rose in the rankings during the course of the online voting to finish 17th. The voting ended yesterday, and Reader’s Digest announced it was awarding $5,000 each to the towns in ninth through 18th places.

Richville entered the contest hoping to score the $50,000 top prize, which went to Lake City, Iowa, which maintained a strong lead for most of the voting period.

Richville wants to take the money and build a new playground after their old one was deemed unsafe and was condemned.

The Richville Free Library organized a couple of Saturdays of voting to boost the effort and build pride in the community.

Reader’s Digest officials said that initial results were considered unofficial until the final vote tallies cast before last night’s midnight deadline could be reviewed and verified, which it expected would take a week to complete.

The results were announced at about 1 a.m. today.

Since its inception in 2010, We Hear You America has touched half of the cities, towns, and villages in the United States. Reader’s Digest has provided more than $20 million in financial and promotional support, as well as assistance to community projects and civic initiatives in 128 communities.

Inspired by the immense pride and community spirit exhibited across the nation during the contest, Reader’s Digest is now searching for America’s Most Interesting Town. Locals are invited to log on to ReadersDigest.com/America to share stories about what makes their town special. The author of the winning story will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and their town will be featured on the cover of an upcoming issue of Reader’s Digest.
