POTSDAM – Findings of the autopsy into the death of 12-year-old Garrett Phillips might be in the hands of Potsdam Police today.

At a news conference Wednesday morning, Potsdam Police Chief Ed Tischler said an autopsy had been performed by a forensic pathologist in Albany, and that the results are expected today or tomorrow.

Little new information came out of Tischler’s news conference last night on the death of the Potsdam middle-schooler Monday.

Tischler has said that no one is in custody and no suspects have been identified in the death of the boy, who was found unconscious and alone in the Market Street apartment where he and his mother lived.

Police went to the apartment late Monday afternoon after a complaint from a neighbor who reportedly heard a noise and the boy moaning.

Efforts to revive the boy at Canton-Potsdam Hospital were unsuccessful.

Police have interviewed several people, including Clarkson University’s soccer coach, who had a relationship with the boy’s mother, Tandy Cyrus, according to reporting by WWNY-TV and the Watertown Times.

The funeral for Garrett Phillips will be held Friday. The obituary announcement can be found here.
