Republican Assembly candidate Mark Walczyk blasts opponet for supporting Dream Act

Republican Assemblyman Mark Walczyk is calling out his opponent Democrat Assemblywoman Addie Jenne for her support of scholarships for what he calls illegal immigrants.

“With Clarkson, Canton, SUNY Jefferson, Potsdam and St. Lawrence in the district, we have great opportunities for our youth to get a higher degree right here in the River District” New York State Assembly candidate Mark Walczyk said. “We need to focus on ways to make college affordable for working class and middle class families.

We need to focus on the Tuition Assistance Program that has helped millions of New Yorkers go to college,” he said. “My opponent needs to focus her attention on helping the struggling families in the Northern New York, instead of listening to her New York City political bosses who have insisted she support their illegal aliens.” Walczyk called on his opponent to go on record against New York State providing college scholarships for illegal aliens. “New York State needs to do a better job of helping working class families and middle class families obtain the help they need to afford a college or technical education,” said Walczyk.

“My opponent has voted repeatedly for the so-called ‘Dream Act’ which provides scholarships for illegal aliens, while shortchanging families in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.” “I’ve knocked on over 4,000 doors across the North Country; I talk to families and students home on summer break, who have struggled with the rising cost of college and increasing student debt” said Walczyk. “Last year, the Governor created his Excelsior scholarship program which has shortchanged thousands and thousands of families with all of its false promises, red tape and arcane rules.” Walczyk, 33, graduated from the University at Albany in 2007 with a BA in History.

He also serves in the US Army Reserve. In 2015 Mark was elected to the non-partisan Watertown City Council. Until recently, he served as District Director to State Senator Patty Ritchie. Mark is a member of New Life Christian Church, A Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, an Eagle Scout, American Legion Boy’s State attendee and a 4-time Ironman Triathlete. Walczyk is the Republican, Conservative, Independence, and Reform Party candidate in his challenge to 10-year incumbent, Assemblywoman Addie Jenne, for the 116th Assembly District. The 116th Assembly District, referred to as “The River District” includes the cities of Ogdensburg and Watertown, as well as the towns of Alexandria, Antwerp, Brownville, Canton, Cape Vincent, Clayton, DePeyster, Hammond, Hounsfield, Lisbon, Louisville, Lyme, Macomb, Massena, Morristown, Orleans, Oswegatchie, Pamelia, Philadelphia, Potsdam, Rossie, Theresa and Waddington.
