RENSSELAER FALLS -- The village has scheduled a public hearing to receive comments on comprehensive changes that are proposed for its zoning code and map.

The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 in the Village Office.

Staff from the St. Lawrence County Planning Office will review the final version of the proposed zoning map, highlight new definitions to the code, and discuss development standards for uses that will be permitted in the residential, commercial and open space districts. Village residents and other interested people are encouraged to attend the public hearing to learn about these revisions and comment on the changes, apress release from the Planning Office said.

“A Land Use Committee consisting of Planning and Zoning Board members, village trustees, village staff and interested residents have been meeting regularly with Planning Office for the last four months to develop these revisions,” Rensselaer Falls Mayor Jeffrey Dollinger said.

“We are now finalizing this process, and have completed the Environmental Assessment Form under SEQR.”

“There is a light at the end of the tunnel for this project,” said Dollinger. After this final meeting and public hearing, the village will refer these changes to the County Planning Board for review in February, and the Village Trustees intend to formally adopt these regulations at their March meeting, Dollinger said.

Hard copies of the draft zoning map, zoning regulations and EAF are available for review at the Village Office at 212 Rensselaer St. and the Village Library until Friday, Jan. 30. These documents can also be emailed upon request by contacting mlarson@stlawco.org.

Those who are unable to attend the meeting and public hearing in person may submit written comments to the Village Office or County Planning Office until Friday, Jan. 30.
