OSWEGATCHIE — A Rensselaer Falls man faces numerous charges including fleeing an officer after he crashed his vehicle into a tree on State Highway 68 Thursday afternoon, according to state police.

Corey J. Brown, 32, was charged with third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, two counts of reckless driving, two counts of speeding and two counts of failure to stop at a stop sign.

Troopers said they tried to stop a black Honda CRV for speeding on County Route 15 shortly before 1 p.m.

Brown failed to stop and troopers followed in pursuit for a short distance before Brown lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on State Highway 68.

Police discovered that Brown had an active bench warrant for his arrest on grand larceny charges.

Brown was injured during the accident and transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center where he was treated and released.

He was also cited for failure to notify the DMV of an address change and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Brown was allegedly in possession of a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana.

He was arraigned Thursday in front of Justice Monroe in Canton court and released on his own recognizance to appear in Ogdensburg court Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 9 a.m.

Brown was later arraigned in Oswegatchie court before Justice Hebert and remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail on $750 bail or $1,500 bond. He it to appear in Oswegatchie court Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.

Police did not say why he was arraigned for a second time.
