OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum recently announced the Public's Choice Award from the 2016 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit, which was on display from Saturday, May 21 through Sunday, Sept. 11.

The exhibition was in the museum’s Richard E. Winter Gallery and Torrey Family Gallery. The exhibit, themed "water," included 67 works of art by 66 artists.

The public was invited to view the exhibition, either in person or online at www.fredericremington.org, and vote for the Public’s Choice Award.

The 2016 Public’s Choice Award went to Jianfen Wells of Ogdensburg for "The Water of the Lake," which was also awarded Best in Show by Juror Catherine Tedford, Director of St. Lawrence University's Richard F. Brush Art Gallery.

Wells was awarded a framed print of Frederic Remington’s 1904 painting, "Boat House at Ingleneuk."

Tedford awarded second place to Gary Larsen of Edinburg, NY for "Split Rock Falls."

The third place prize went to Georgette Bacon of Nicholville, NY for "Ocean Song."

Many of the works were for sale, and four were sold, including Wells' "The Water of the Lake." \

One third of the proceeds benefit the Museum, and two thirds go to the artist.

Next year's exhibit will be themed "reflection."

Following the Members' Exhibit, the museum held an opening reception for its 2016 NYS Juried Art Exhibit, which will be on display through Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.
