MASSENA -- A new record high temperature was set yesterday, Nov. 24, as unusually warm weather for this time of year reached 70 degrees across much of St. Lawrence County.
The reading of 70 degrees at the official National Weather Station at Massena's Richards Field beat the previous record of 67 degrees set in 2001. The record highs were reported in Massena and Potsdam.
New records were also set in Gouverneur and Star Lake as the high yesterday was 66. The previous record of 62 degrees was set in 2001 at KGTB Wheeler-Sack International Airport in Fort Drum, which is the nearest National Weather Service recording station for Star Lake and Gouverneur., according to Weather Underground.
Temperatures reached 70 degrees in Canton and Ogdensburg as well yesterday but that did not top their record of 72 degrees which occurred in 1931.
The average high for this time of year in St. Lawrence County is around 39 degrees.
